It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of SSgt. Charles Herbert Specht, affectionately known as Chuck, who departed this life on October 1, 2024, at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, FL, at the age of 75.
Born in Steubenville, OH, on November 9, 1948, Chuck's journey began in a town that shaped his early years. He attended Castle Heights Military Academy for high school, graduating in 1964 before pursuing two years of studies at Tennessee Tech University. In June 1969, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving with honor as an E4 Staff Sergeant until 1973. His military career took him to Southeast Asia and Talking Bird, Georgia, where he served as a Ground Force Radio Specialist, merging his passion for electronics with his dedication to his country.
Following his discharge, Chuck dedicated over 30 years to federal service as a Telecommunications Specialist at White Sands Missile Range. His love for electronics continued throughout his life, where he delighted in “tinkering” and repairing a wide array of devices—often saying he could fix anything from “DC to light.” Upon retiring from civil service, he embraced his hobbies with joy, spending countless hours indulging in model trains, radio control, and photography.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Linda Gayle Specht, as well as his son, Charles James Specht (Jim), and daughter, Janet Dorothy Specht (Jadee) and her wife Mandy Renee Stephens. He also leaves behind a cherished family that includes his niece Marjorie Anne Christensen, nephew Richard Salvatore Zappulla II, brother Richard Newton Specht, sister Susan Louise Specht, and four grandchildren, along with two additional nieces.
In accordance with Chuck's wishes, no formal open service will be held. A private family internment will take place at Sylvan Abbey Cemetery in December 2024.
For those wishing to honor Chuck’s memory, donations may be made in his name to the Carrie Tingley Hospital or The Seeing Eye in lieu of flowers.
Chuck's legacy of love, service, and passion for life will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
