Marlin L. Savage, 86, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at his home in Pine Ridge, Florida. Born April 22, 1930 in Flint, Michigan. He moved here to Citrus County in 2003 from New Port Richey, Fl, where he had resided for thirteen years.Marlin Savage had a career in the U.S. Army and retired with many commendations after 20 years of service. Marlin, also known as Marty, joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 before his 18th birthday. Upon completing his hitch he worked with his brothers Bud and Les on a farm in Michigan. He then joined the U.S. Army and, upon completing his hitch, worked in a Buick Automobile Factory, as did his father Hank, but soon chose to re-enlist in the U.S. Army and stayed in the Army until retiring in 1973. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan in support of U.S. troops fighting in Korea during the Korean war. He was sent to Vietnam during the early days of the war in Vietnam. He was once again stationed in Japan at Hakata Station, near Fukuoka, Japan.His final two assignments were working in plain clothes at the U.S. Embassies of Tehran, Iran and Bangkok, Thailand. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army, Marty went back to school and received an Associates Degree in electronic engineering and worked in Michigan until retiring. After retirement, he volunteered his time helping war veterans with the Gladwin County, Michigan VFW, presiding over the Honor Guard and serving as post commander. He dedicated his time to improving conditions at VA hospitals.
He moved to Florida in 1990 and enjoyed golfing, bowling and boating and visited Michigan for a few weeks each year in Michigan. He is preceded in death by his wife Jean, May 2005, son, Mark Olin Savage, April, 1957, and his daughter, Pamela Jo Randall, April, 1993. Survivors include his sons, Clay Savage of Beverly Hills, and Dewey Savage of Crystal River; Grandchildren, Brian Sasse, Mardi Sasse, Marlina Savage and Laura Savage; Great Grandchildren, Dale Sasse, Harley Sasse and Kayla Sibrel; and one Great Great Grandchild Silas Dent. Marlin Savage will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
