Richard E. (Dick) Lauer, 77, of Hernando, FL passed away peacefully at home under Hospice care on Thursday, May 24, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 14, 1941 to the late Richard and Ruth Lauer in Baltimore, MD. Dick was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He was a graduate of York High School, Elmhurst, IL and attended Cornell College, Ames, IA. He was employed by Jewel-Osco for 19 years, and Schamberger Distributors for 13 years. Dick and his wife, Barb, left Villa Park, IL, and retired to Citrus County in 2001, where they enjoyed boating and fishing. Shortly after moving to Florida, Dick and Barb started an embroidery business- Embroidery Etc. by Barb. Dick was a whiz on the computerized embroidery machine. They are known for their “sparkle shirts.” Dick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara; daughters, Julie Lauer Ellison (James) of Rhode Island, and Beth Lauer (Karl Krutzikowsky) of Beverly Hills, FL; his grandchildren: Jamie Erin Ellison of Madison, Connecticut, and James Richard Ellison of Lititz, PA; sister Nancy Vonderohe (Ken) of Marietta, GA; and sister-in-law Bette Petersen (James) of Gainesville, VA. Dick was a storyteller and loved to regale everyone with his jokes. He was a loving man and is sorely missed. Interment will be private.
