Henry Thomas (Tom) Honour of Inverness, FL passed away peacefully to join his family in heaven. He was born in Lapeer, NY March 31, 1932. He was raised by his maternal Grandparents the Pendells on their farm in Killawog, NY. He told lifetime stories of him and his younger brother Charlie growing up there. His youngest brother Donald was adopted by the Muckeys and raised on their farm not far away. He married his school sweetheart and neighbor Dorthea Gutchess on February 16, 1952. He entered the Air force that same year and spent time in California and Texas. He was an aircraft mechanic and he returned to NY with the desire and knowledge to be a mechanic for life. He also enjoyed wood working but was a true jack of all trades! After USAF He worked for a few well known local Cortland businesses and even ran his own auto repair and wrecker business. He then started a career of 40 years with Economy Paving Co. in Cortland helping create what it is today. Tom and Dorthea raised three surviving sons, Thomas (Jeannie) of Inverness, FL., Kirk (Tina) of Jacksonville, FL., and Edgar (Tammy) of Cortland, NY. They both supported and cherished all of their family as well as so many friends and Tom was always the go to guy to help anyone in need. He was a longtime member of The Gideons and served many hours to spread the word of Gods love for us all. He ensured the family camped as much as possible around NY in the summer along with annual spring trips to Florida. After retirement they bought a place on the water in Inverness, FL., spent winters there and then lived full time for the past several years. Dorthea preceeded him on the final trip to heaven in 2015. Besides his sons he is survived by two sisters in law Marlea Gutchess and Caroline Muckey, seven grandchildren (Erika, Jessica, Travis, Cody, Cassandra, Nathan and Elayne). Seven great grandchildren (Aislyn, Lorelai, Nicholas, Daniel, Lillian, Malachi, Olivia) and several nieces and nephews. Also, a very special friend and companion Sally Northrop of Floral City, FL. The family is planning a service at a later date in Lapeer to lay him to rest next to Dorthea where both of their beautiful lives started. In his memory, if anyone is interested, please make contributions to The Gideons International in his honor: gideons.org/donate.
